EFFICIENT E-BIKING: Five tips for maximum range
Riding style, route profile, surface and even temperature - all of these factors influence the battery range. However, if you ride economically and pay attention to a few things, you should be able to achieve ranges of 70 to 100 km with a 500 watt-hour battery and medium support - enough for most tours and daily stages.
TIP 1: LOW ROLLING RESISTANCE THANKS TO OPTIMAL TIRE PRESSURE
Make sure your tires have the correct air pressure. This will reduce rolling resistance and increase energy efficiency.
TIP 2: SAVE ENERGY WHILE DRIVING
Full support is often not needed, especially on flat terrain and in flat passages. Here, you can ride quickly at a lower level – and save a lot of energy at the same time.
TIP 3: SHIFT SMARTLY
The correct cadence also increases the efficiency of the motor. The optimal range is between 75 and 90 revolutions per minute. By cleverly shifting gears, the cadence can be adjusted and the battery is protected.
TIP 4: DRIVE WITH FORECAST
Starting off in particular uses a lot of energy and reduces the range. Therefore, stop & go should be avoided if possible. When starting off, the gear and support level should be as low as possible. This way, the battery is not put under unnecessary strain.
TIP 5: JUST CHARGE INTERMEDIATELY
Most batteries are charged to around 50 percent in two hours. On long trips or in the office, it is therefore worth having the charger available. This way, you can "recharge" your own energy during your lunch break. Intermediate or partial charging does not harm modern lithium-ion batteries.
