I ordered an Ado 20S over the weekend and it was delivered on Tuesday. The packaging was excellent. The 20S is the bike without a luggage rack, which I ordered separately. It's also very high quality. However, the luggage rack came with metal mudguards. The luggage rack alone would have been sufficient for me. One of the mudguards was badly dented, but the excellent customer support immediately offered a replacement.
Regarding the bike: The torque assist takes some getting used to. After 90 kilometers, though, it's fine. You hardly notice the difference between gears 1 and 5 in the 5-speed mode, but that's what's so great about it. In 5th gear, the gear ratio is different, yet the assistance is still good. It's a shame the motor cuts out at 25 km/h, as you reach that speed very quickly. In 3-speed mode, you get the standard assistance levels: eco/normal/strong. I prefer riding in 5-speed mode; in 3rd gear, the bike really takes off. I was able to tackle very steep climbs without pushing. However, this does require some effort when pedaling. A lot of effort results in strong assistance. Riding is really fun, even if the cadence is high. >As long as the speed remains at 25km/h, it is pleasant to drive.
The wide tires are excellent on gravel. Make sure the bike comes with front suspension. Other vendors offer the older version with a rigid fork (for the same price).
The folding mechanism is easy to use. Folding down the handlebars and sliding in the saddle is quick and easy. It's best to slide the saddle in first so the bike stands on the seat post. Otherwise, it rests on a pedal or the bottom bracket. A small support (like a kickstand) or a small wheel would be a welcome addition. The brakes are excellent. The markings on the handlebars and saddle make it easy to return to the familiar setting.
The display is easy to read. The navigation mode works well, but the speedometer becomes very small. A way to switch between navigation and normal display by pressing the (I) button would be desirable.
But that's really nitpicking.
The only drawback is that the rear light has to be switched on separately. The display even detects braking, but there's no connection to the rear light. This is a feature they cut compared to the Pro model. A green connector remains on the handlebars; its purpose is unclear—perhaps for charging a phone, but I haven't found any adapters?
Conclusion: I bought the ADO 20S at a discount. Excellent value for money. Fast delivery. Excellent customer support that responded quickly. It's fun to ride and easy to store in the trunk – comparable to two crates of drinks. The removable saddle with the integrated battery for easy charging is a great feature. Battery life is perfectly adequate. Sure, it's not a touring bike, but it's fantastic for city riding, camping, and short trips.
I bought the bike in anthracite. The matte finish looks great, but seems relatively susceptible to scratches. Perhaps white would have been better.
Still, I recommend buying it! Now I can finally drive somewhere with my regular car and go on short trips – WITHOUT a luggage rack. I always have my bike with me now.
